New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Tuesday directed BSES Rajdhani, a power distribution firm, to give a compensation of Rs.7.5 lakh to a minor girl who lost her hand due to the company’s negligence.
The direction came on a plea by the father of Anjum seeking compensation after his daughter lost her hand when she came into contact with a transformer built close to the roof of their house.
Directing BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd to pay within one month, Justice Rajiv Sahai Endalw said: “The negligence of the company is writ large and speaks for itself.
“Considering that Anjum will have to lead her entire life with the handicap which has been evaluated by the Safdarjung hospital at 85 percent, I feel the compensation of Rs.7.5 lakh to be appropriate.”
The girl’s father moved the court saying BSES installed the transformer on the electric pole adjoining to the parapet wall of the roof of his house at Indra Park near Najafgarh in west Delhi.
He alleged that the transformer was barely at an arm’s length from the house. Despite several requests, the transformer was not removed.
On March 2, 2007, his daughter, then aged 4 years, while playing on the roof came in contact with the transformer and suffered an electric shock, which threw her off from the roof of the house.
One of her hands had to be amputated to save her life.
