Architecture education institutions meet at Jamia Millia

New Delhi: To deliberate upon the current state of architecture education in the country a meeting of the heads of architecture institutions was convened on Tuesday at Jamia Millia Islamia where the participants stressed that role of Council of Architecture, a regulatory body, should be regulated as per spirit of Architecture Education in the light of Architects Act, 1972 & Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983.

The meeting also called for constituting a committee comprising members from Central Universities, IITs, SPAs (School of Planning & Architecture), NITs and State Government Institutions, which would be responsible for making rules and guidelines related to academic practices of Architecture.

“The role of AICTE in enhancing the quality of Architecture education and providing stimulus to research and development was discussed by the members present. Also, it was discussed that the Refresher courses related to Architecture should be organised at various Central Universities and other such centres,” a press note stated.

Considering consultancy practice as one of the essential part of Academic practices in the field of architecture, the meeting decided that the norms as prescribed by the Council should be adopted in the UGC under 8(M) of 6th pay commission.

The meeting was attended by the heads and eminent educators representing SPA Delhi, SPA Bhopal, CCA Chandigarh, Sir JJ College Mumbai, VNIT Nagpur, MANIT Bhopal, IIT Kharagpur, AMU Aligarh among many other institutions, along with the representatives of Indian Institute of Architects.
