Kolkata : The Shapoorji Pallonji Group, one of the biggest construction and realty firms in the country and largest stakeholder in Tata Sons, Wednesday said it is looking at building roads, IT parks, deep sea port and hydropower facilities in the state.
“We already have substantial investments in the state. We have already invested over Rs.1,000 crore in West Bengal. We have come today to see various other avenues which could be of mutual benefit and interest for both,” said Shapoor Mistry, group chief managing director after a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The Mumbai-based group has also interest in textiles, engineering goods, home appliances, and shipping.
“Some areas we are looking at are deep sea port, hydro-electricity, IT parks, and construction of roads both in the hill and plain areas,” Mistry told media persons at the state secretariat, Writers’ Buildings.
Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee, who was present at the meeting, said the chief minister requested the group to look into setting up night shelters in the state as a part of their corporate social responsibility.
“They have given several proposals during the discussion with the CM. They have given proposals regarding deep sea port, hydroelectricity, IT hubs. They have proposed to give expertise and consultations regarding constructions of roads,” Chatterjee said.
Shapoor Mistry is the elder brother of Cyrus Mistry, who would succeed Ratan Tata when he steps down as head of Tata Sons.
