The flood situation was improving with water receding from major rivers, an official said. The administration has begun assessing the damage caused by the floods across the region, including loss to the crop. Road connectivity has also been restored in most areas.

“So far there are reports of five people getting killed in house collapse caused by heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday,” an official said.

The houses have collapsed mainly in mountainous areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Reasi, Udhampur and parts of Kathua district.

Besides five people getting killed under the debris of collapsed houses and over two dozen injured, “two women were killed after slipping and falling from a narrow hilly track in Gool area of Ramban district”, the official said.

The civil administration with the help of police, army and Indian Air Force rescued over 100 people trapped or marooned in the floods during last two days.

“The administration is making assessment of the losses caused by the heavy rains over the weekend and government will give adequate relief to those who have suffered,” said an official.
