Molnar has also proposed that silver medallists will receive 25 million and bronze winners will get 20 million forints. Coaches and all competitors, up to eighth place, are also to be rewarded, reports Xinhua.

The rewards are subject to cabinet approval and are nearly twice as much was given to medallists following the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The top Hungarian Olympic athletes will be honoured at a ceremony next Monday.

Hungarian athletes garnered eight gold medals in London along with four silvers and five bronze medals.

The country, which has an overall population of just under 10 million people, finished ninth overall.
