Belgrade: The Serbian coach of the Kuwait national football team has been shot by his neighbour and is in critical condition in hospital, Serbian newspaper Vecernje Novosti has reported.
Goran Tufegdzic, a Serbian coach who has worked in the Middle East for the last decade, was at his family home in Serbia when he was allegedly shot in the chest by his 86-year-old neighbour following a dispute over a plot of land, the newspaper said.
The neighbour has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Jasmina Tisma, a spokesperson for the local Pozarevac police department, was quoted as saying by the newspaper Saturday.
Tufegdzic was in “a very serious condition” at the local hospital and later transferred him to the capital, Belgrade, for further treatment, Pozarevac hospital spokesmen Srecko Bosic told the newspaper.
Tufegdzic has worked with Kuwait since 2009, qualifying the team for the finals of last year’s Asian Cup and winning the Gulf Cup in 2010.
