New Delhi: A Delhi court Thursday dismissed the bail plea of businessman Abhishek Verma’s wife in a money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Gautam Manan rejected the bail to Romanian Anca Neacsu, whose husband Abhishek Verma is also an accused in the Naval war room leak case.
“In my considered opinion, the present (ED’s) case is at a preliminary stage and there are serious allegations against the applicant (Anca) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, and the release of the applicant on bail may frustrate the efforts of the investigating agency in collecting evidence,” the court said.
Verma and his wife were arrested Aug 22 by the ED. They are in judicial custody.
They are also facing separate corruption, cheating and forgery cases. Anca was granted bail in a forgery case Wednesday.
The 2006 war room leak case, in which Verma is an accused, was linked to leaking classified documents from the directorate of naval operations.
