Chandigarh : The Haryana government has decided to develop a sanctuary in Fatehabad district to conserve black bucks which are on the verge of extinction, an official said here Wednesday.
An official spokesman of the government said black bucks were found in 26 villages of Fatehabad district and were believed to be 500 in number.
“The sanctuary would also help in saving the black bucks from dogs. Panchayats have been asked to create awareness about this among villagers,” he added.
Black bucks are revered by the Bishnoi community in Haryana and Rajasthan. The deer species is on the endangered list of wildlife in India.
