New Delhi : The Congress party Monday supported Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s statement in the Rajya Sabha that Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik had misled India on the arrest of Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

“Malik made a wrong statement. He said Hafiz Saeed had been arrested by their court three times but released due to poor evidence. But Hafiz was arrested in other cases,” Congress spokesperson P.C. Chacko told reporters here.

“This has been conveyed to Malik… The ball is in their court,” he said.

Making a statement in the Rajya Sabha a day after Malik concluded his three-day visit to India, Shinde said copies of FIRs (first information reports) and judgments pertaining to arrests of Saeed were made available to India that showed he had not been arrested in connection with the Mumbai attacks.

The Congress also said that India had suspended its dialogue with Pakistan after the Mumbai terror attacks, however, the same should continue as suspending talks is not a solution.

“We will continue to convince Pakistan on the 26/11 evidence,” Chacko said.
