Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir’s opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Monday said the peace process initiated by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was irreversible and that the party should work towards uniting itself in 2013.
At a one-day PDP convention here, Mehbooba Mufti said the peace process initiated by the government headed by former home minister and former J&K chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was irreversible and the roadmap laid down by the party was the only way to establish sustainable peace in the sub-continent.
Addressing party workers and executive members, she said: “It was all due to the convictions of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had extended a hand of friendship towards Pakistan when tension between the two countries was high on the borders.”
She underlined that whatever steps Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had initiated for restoring peace, successive regimes at Delhi endorsed them. She added that the PDP was committed to work as a facilitator to resolve the Kashmir issue.
Asking people to change the “present corrupt and inefficient system”, she said that the credibility of the ruling National Conference (NC)-led coalition has reached its lowest ebb because it has lost the faith of the common masses due to its misdeeds.
She said that “prevailing anarchy and chaos in the state is result of the failure of the system”.
Her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, said at the convention that the PDP has to become a uniform force to unite all the regions and sub-regions of the state. He said that PDP has already played a historical role in reviving people’s faith in democracy and the party has emerged as only alternative of the NC in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
He added that the PDP had translated its promises into realities and “the people of the state have high hopes from our party and it is the duty of party workers to come up to the expectations of the common masses”.
