Tunis: Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki has granted pardon to 1,900 prisoners including 29 foreigners, the official TAP news agency reported.
Quoting a statement released Tuesday by the presidency, the report said Marzouki pardoned the prisoners on the occasion of the second anniversary of the upheaval that toppled former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
The pardoned prisoners had been sentenced for minor crimes, not exceeding one year, and had served two thirds of their prison terms, the statement said.
