The Delhi High Court on 22nd February sought a status report from Delhi Police on a PIL seeking a ban on www.shariah4hind.com, a website which has given a call for a rally on coming 3rd March in New Delhi to demand the Government of India to immediately implement Shariah law in place of the Indian Constitution. The PIL has rightfully expressed concern that the call has threatened communal harmony in the country.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Shah Endlaw directed Delhi police chief to submit the report on the website within a week. The PIL was filed by Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, president of the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena.
When one opens the website and goes through the content one can’t help but saying that there is sheer madness behind the rally call and the demand. To hold a rally and demand government of a country to throw out its own constitution and adopt shariah immediately is not madness, then what? The website should be banned immediately instead before it creates any problem and the people behind it should be brought to book.

The website has details about its 3rd March program. “After weeks of preparation Shariah4Hind would like to announce the official programme for the planned rally for Shariah, in the heart of New Delhi, India on 3rd March 2012,” says the site.
“We encourage all Muslims who have not already pledged their commitment to the event to ensure they abide by regulations set on the day. For those intending to garner further support for what is likely to be a momentous event we encourage you to download our flyer (to be provided shortly) and distribute them in key Muslim areas in India,” it further says.
According to the details available on the site, they will hold a press conference in New Delhi on 2nd March where one Abu Baraa, Chairman of Shariah4Hind, will give short introduction of the rally. But it does not disclose the place of the press conference. But on the same day one Sheikh Anjem Choudary, who claims to be Judge of the Shariah Court of the UK, will give speech on the motivations behind the Shariah4Hind project including the declaration of a fatwa regarding Indian political parties. Moreover, one Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad, who the site says is worldwide leader of organisation Al-Muhajiroun, will address through video.
On 3rd March, the site says Muslims will occupy roads surrounding Indian parliament (Sansad Bhavan): Lokh Sabha Marg, Red Cross Road, Raisina Road, and Rajya Sabha Marg. Speeches will be made by Abu Baraa, Chairman for Shariah4Hind and Sheikh Anjem Choudary, Judge of the Shariah Court of UK.
According to the site, “Muslims will be demanding the immediate return of the Shariah in the Indian subcontinent and their complete rejection of the Indian constitution. All protestors will continue to occupy the area until demands are met.”
After reading the program details and contents on the so-called Islamic website, one concludes that the move is clearly a disservice to Islam and the Muslim community living in India. The move may be a calculated plan to create rift between Muslims and other communities and give another whip in the hands of authorities.
Perhaps none had heard about this site before Wednesday when the Delhi High Court heard a PIL and passed order. And there was no news about the PIL whenever it was filed. But the people behind the website seem to have had all knowledge of the PIL and hearing as the site has a ready response to the PIL and its hearing that was held today.
“On 22nd February 2012, anti-Muslim organisation Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena will attend the Delhi High Court appealing for a ban of organisation Shariah4Hind. They will also be demanding that the planned rally for Shariah on 3rd March 2012 outside Sansad Bhavan be outlawed and that visas for Anjem Choudary and Shariah4Hind representatives be rejected,” says a story titled “A Response To Delhi High Court Hearing” available on the homepage of the site.
Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, president of the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena, is the same person who was arrested for instigating attack on eminent lawyer Prashant Bhushan a couple of months back.
