Pakistani tribesmen praised for assisting army

Islamabad : A Pakistan Army commander has praised the tribesmen of the northwestern region for assisting the country’s armed forces against terrorists.”Anti-state elements” have carried out many terrorist activities in Pakistan and killed many innocent people, “particularly tribal people for money”, Peshawar Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Khalid Rabbani was quoted as saying by the Daily Times.

He said the armed forces were performing their duties with “commitment and honesty” and had initiated a number of development projects.

The projects included setting up communication networks, health and educational institutions and social welfare schemes in the tribal areas, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the armed forces.

A programme titled “De-radicalisation Emancipation Programme” is being run by the army to help rehabilitate tribal youth misguided by the Taliban in the name of Islam.

Under the programme, the affected youth were given religious, technical and physical training that would enable them to become useful and responsible citizens and take care of their families, the statement said.
