Islamabad: A Kashmiri group based in Britain — the Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK — has opposed granting of “Most Favoured Nation” (MFN) status by Pakistan to India, a media report said Friday.
Abdul Majeed Nadeem, secretary general of the group, said performance of the Pakistani parliament’s Kashmir Committee, headed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, remained next to nothing on the issue, the Online news agency reported Friday.
Commenting on the committee’s endorsement of the Pakistani government’s decision to grant MFN status to India, Nadeem said the track record of Rahman with regard to the Kashmir liberation movement always remained a big question mark.
Nadeem said Rahman during a visit to India floated the idea to make the Line of Control a permanent border between India and Pakistan.
He said the parliamentary committee, instead of highlighting the Kashmir issue at the international level, put it in the back-burner.
The committee remained “mysteriously mute” when world powers spoke about the discovery of unmarked graves in Kashmir and violation of human rights in the region, he said.
He said the European Union and global human rights organisations even went to the extent of demanding an end to ties with India, but to the utter surprise of Kashmiris, Rahman and his committee had no words to say.
