Felicitation of Meritorious Muslim students continues in Manipur

Imphal: Muslims in Manipur continue to celebrate the achievements of their students. Local as well as State-level felicitation programmes are being organised by Muslim civil organisations, educational forums, clubs, etc. in various parts of the Muslim inhabited areas to encourage the meritorious Muslim students.

One such local-level felicitation programme was organised on 15 July 2012 at Urup in Imphal West district. The programme, named First Meritorious Students’ Felicitation Ceremony, was organised by Urup Muslim Apunba Task Committee. 31 students from Urup Arapti who cleared the Class X and XII exam in first and second division were awarded at the function.

Manipur Muslim Online Forum (MMOF), a face-book forum, also felicitated all the Muslim position holders and Muslim subject toppers in Class X and XII exam conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), Council of Higher Secondary Exam Manipur (COHSEM) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and successful Muslim candidates in Medical and Engineering exams on 24 June 2012 at Lilong Haoreibi College in Lilong. A Quiz competition was also part of the felicitation programme.

The function was graced by Deputy Secretary of Department of Education (S) Abdus Salam, Member of Legislative Assembly Md. Fajur Rahim, and Principal of Lilong Haoreibi College Md. Khalilur Rahaman.

MMOF organized its first felicitation programme for Class X and XII Muslim toppers and Manipur Pre-Medical Test qualified Muslim candidates on 19 June 2011. MMOF, according to its officials, is “aimed at creating platforms for all the scholars, think-tanks and people from different strata to participate in the movement to uplift Manipuri Muslims, fight for our rights, educate people about their rights, about the grants and sanctions made by the government for the deserving people, engage ourselves to identify the need of the community and voice it out through the medium that has been granted to every citizen by the constitution of India.” At present the forum has 700 members – Manipuri Muslim students and professionals – living across the globe.

Pangal Students Organization (PSO) in association with Minority Muslims’ Private English School Association (MMPESA) also felicitated all the position holders in Class X and XII exam conducted by BOSEM, COHSEM and CBSE on 9 June 2012 at Islamic English School, Lilong.

Retired IAS and Chairperson of Manipur State Minorities Commission Helim Choudhury, Social Activist Dr. Dhanabir Laishram, Chief Advisor of PSO Md. Hayatur Rahman, Chief Editor of News ISTV Yumnam Rupachandra, Director of IBSD, Takyelpat, Dr. N.C. Talukdar, Principal of Lilong Haoreibi College Md. Khalilur Rahman and Advisor of MIMPESA Md. Islamuddin graced the function. All-India topper in AISSCE 2012 Mohammad Ismat and 244th position holder in the UPSC exam Yumkheibam Sabir were also among those feted.

Popular Front of India (PFI), Manipur unit, also organised a school kits distribution cum reception programme on 3 June 2012 at Islamic Educational Guide Centre at Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi, in Lilong. The function, attended by the officials of PFI, local leaders, elders and students, felicitated Yumkhaibam Sabir, Mohammad Ismat and Mohsin Khan, 8th rank holder in the AISSCE 2012. School kits were also distributed to the students of the local schools.

The all-India topper in CBSE Class XII exam 2012 was also a Muslim student from Manipur. Mohammed Ismat who belongs to Thoubal district in Manipur scored 495 out of 500 marks in the exam whose results were announced in May 2012. Ismat comes from a poor family.
