Lucknow : Curfew was Wednesday partially lifted in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district where communal violence broke out two days ago, police said.
There has been no incident of violence since Monday evening.
After the curfew was lifted for two hours in the day, people came out in large numbers to shop, fearing that the curfew might be clamped again.
The curfew was relaxed in the Kila, Subhashnagar and Kotwali areas.
The administration Tuesday night lifted the curfew in violence-hit areas including Izzatnagar. Curfew has been fully lifted in Cantonment, CB Ganj and Bithri Chainpur areas.
Schools and colleges, however, remained closed Wednesday.
Nearly 150 people have been arrested for breaking the curfew and over 800 people held for indulging in violence.
One person was killed and several people were injured late Sunday when communal violence broke out in Bareilly after some Muslims objected to music being played by ‘kanwariyas’ returning from Haridwar.
