Computer training for madrasa teachers at AMU

Aligarh: A ten-day orientation course, Computer Application in Teaching organized by the Centre for Promotion of Science (CPS), Aligarh Muslim University for teachers from Deeni Madaris and Muslim Managed Educational Institutions concluded today.

Addressing the valedictory programme, Mrs. Sabiha Simi Shah, wife of AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, said that computers were a necessity of life and every educated person had to be acquainted with the computer knowledge. Appreciating the efforts of the Centre for Promotion of Science in educating Madrasa and Muslim managed school teachers in computers, she said it was essential for teachers to know computers and it was a great service on the part of CPS to provide them the fundamental knowledge of using computers as the most powerful teaching aid today.

Mrs. Shah said that the CPS and other centres in the University needed to launch similar training programmes for Madrasa teachers in order to make them a part of schemes meant for inclusive educational development of downtrodden.

Earlier, while welcoming the guests, Director of the Centre, Dr. Fatima Shujatullah said that the Centre for Promotion of Science was established in 1985 as a measure to materialize the dreams of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan to provide modern education, especially scientific education and learning to Muslims along with the traditional religious education. She said that the periodic refresher and orientation courses are organized by the CPS to attain this objective.

Conducting the programme, the Coordinator of training programme, Dr. Yasir Hasan Siddiqui said that the CPS has also published several science curriculum books in Urdu for science teaching in Deeni Madaris and regular schools.

Mualana Mohd. Raghib and Mrs. Razia Khan, while representing the participants’ views, expressed gratitude to the organizers and resource persons for organizing such a highly informative programme and helping them acquire and upgrade their knowledge about computers.

Dr. Zeba Zakaur Rab also addressed the participants. Mrs. Sabiha Shah gave away the certificates of participation to the teacher participants.
