New Delhi: A Delhi court Friday directed the union home ministry to serve summons to various foreign-based social networking websites, including Facebook and Google, in a case of allegedly hosting defamatory content.
“Let the accused (social networking websites) be summoned through the assistance of the MHA (ministry of home affairs), Government of India. The summons shall be returnable on Sep 22,” Metropolitan Magistrate Jay Thareja said.
The court was hearing a criminal case filed by journalist Vinay Rai who sought removal of derogatory contents from around 20 social networking sites and websites.
