New Delhi : Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has suggested Mathura in Uttar Pradesh as an ideal location for a new greenfield airport.
In a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Ajit Singh said Mathura can cater to the tourism needs of the area as well as of the nearby Agra.
“I would like to recommend a location at Mathura, preferably with an easy access to the expressway. You will agree that Taj trapezium needs a world class international airport to spur growth in the field of tourism and overall economic and industrial development of the area,” he said in his letter dated June 7, but made public Monday.
The development comes as the Uttar Pradesh government recently scrapped a proposal for a greenfield airport at Jewar in the Gautam Budh Nagar district bordering Delhi, after the project was held up for technical and regulatory reasons.
Ajit Singh urged the UP government to send a proposal for an international airport at Mathura and assured that all regulatory clearances will be expedited.
