The statistical report appearing on the official site of the Delhi district court says the highest percent of cases settled was recorded at the Karkardooma court mediation centre. The lowest percentage came from the centre at Tis Hazari.

There are four mediation centres in Delhi – at the courts at Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Rohini and Dwarka.

Mediation involves a negotiation process in which a neutral third party assists the disputants in resolving their disputes within a short period.

The mediator acts as a catalyst in settling the dispute by leaving the decision to the parties themselves after initiating communication between them

The statistics of Tis Hazari court, for instance, show that out of 26,608 cases heard for the period, 26,096 cases were settled.

According to mediation centre officials, cases are resolved to the satisfaction of both parties to the dispute within a short period, which is why many more people were opting for mediation over going to court.

The city had its first mediation centre in August 2005 at the Tis Hazari courts.
