Lucknow : Political VIPs voted in the final and seventh phase of balloting in Uttar Pradesh Saturday, with each claiming victory for his party.
One of the first to exercise her franchise was actor-turned-MP Jaya Prada and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. Both voted at Rampur.
Emerging from the polling booth, Naqvi flashed a victory sign. He said the BJP would sweep the contest for the 403-member state assembly.
Jaya Prada, who has split from the Samajwadi Party, was equally confident of triumphing in Rampur.
Union minister Jatin Prasad cast his vote at Shahjahanpur. He said the Congress would do well, thanks mainly to Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Cricketer-turned-politician and Moradabad MP Mohammed Azharuddin voted in his home constituency. He too said he was confident of a Congress win.
Saturday was the seventh and final phase of voting in Uttar Pradesh.
