Lucknow : A wanted criminal, Anwar, who was arrested at Chennai airport Thursday was brought to the Uttar Pradesh capital Friday, police said.
Anwar was arrested at Chennai airport Thursday, following a specific tip-off. DIG (Lucknow) D.K. Thakur said the criminal, who had Rs.25,000 reward on his head, was accused of kidnapping a businessman in the state capital in 2009.
Anwar had fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident and had reportedly returned to India last year after his brother, another history sheeter, was killed in Sadatganj.
Lucknow police had alerted all state police in the country and airport security was provided with his photographs.
He landed at Chennai airport by a Saudi Airlines flight Thursday and was immediately detained by security personnel deployed there. Tamil Nadu police passed on the information to their Lucknow counterparts who dispatched a special team to Chennai to pick up Anwar. The criminal was presented before a city court Friday and sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
