Six dead in Kathmandu market fire

Kathmandu : Six people died when a fire broke out in Kathmandu’s biggest vegetable market, police said Sunday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Tamang told Xinhua that the police were working on the scene to rescue those who might have been trapped in the market.

The fire broke out at 10 p.m. Saturday and was still on at some places Sunday morning, he said.

“We have recovered six bodies from the market but no one has been identified. A seriously injured personhas been taken to hospital,” Tamang said.

“Seven fire engines were used to control the fire,” he added.

The police said the fire was apparently caused by a short circuit.
