Jammu : The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has filed a police complaint seeking a probe into the alleged bungling of its funds, amounting to several crores of rupees, which was detected recently, an official said Saturday.
JKCA Chairman Mohammad Aslam Goni told media persons here that the association had lodged a report at the Ram Munshi Bagh police station in Srinagar to investigate the case of “embezzlement” of crores of rupees by JKCA officials.
Goni, who is also political advisor to National Conference President and union Minister Farooq Abdullah, said: “Bogus accounts have been detected in the bank through which about Rs.20 to 25 crore are suspected to have been siphoned off.”
Opposition parties, however, allege that about Rs.50 crore have been bungled.
The issue of the multi-crore-rupee embezzlement has been taken up strongly by opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other groups. They are demanding FIRs against Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Goni for “this huge bungling”.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti strongly demanded a CBI probe into the matter. She said: “Why double standards? If you can book Suresh Kalmadi, why not here? It calls for that (CBI probe).”
JKCA had earlier dismissed its general secretary Ehsaan Mirza and chief administrative officer Saleem Khan to which the opposition’s reaction was: “These people are being made scapegoats. Action needs to be taken against Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the president of JKCA, and Aslam Goni.”
