The newly submitted project includes plans to buy equipments worth 16 Crore Rupees to the public health institutions and another 86 Crore Rupees for starting educational institutions within the district.

Besides the minority development programmes the proposals are also for starting Asramam Schools for scheduled caste students and de-addiction centres to discourage alcohol consumption within the tribal localities of these scheduled castes, said Mr Chandra Shekhar.

He said that the 12th five year plan will focus more on the agricultural sector and expressed his hope on a special package for Wayanad by making use of the Backward Regions Grant Fund, taking into account the agricultural crisis faced by the district.

He said the planning board will interfere into the cases of those projects which are stuck on its way and have asked the district collector to submit a list of such projects.

“The state should be given the right to utilise 20% of the central funds as per their wish, the planning board have made a request on this regard before the central govt and we are expecting a favourable reply”, he said.
