Kuala Lumpur : Malaysian Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said Sunday she will not seek an extension when her term ends next month.
The announcement comes amid corruption allegations against her involving 250 million ringgit ($80 million). She said she will quit when her term ends as senator April 8.
“I think for me now, the right thing is to leave my post as a cabinet minister. The time has come,” she said.
It was alleged that her family used part of the federal loan meant for the National Feedlot Center, a government cattle raising project, Xinhua reported.
He husband Mohammad Salleh Ismail was the executive chairman of the project, while her three children were listed as its directors.
