Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued stay order on appointments of professors made in recent time at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU). The court issued the order hearing a petition against appointment of non-Urdu speaking teachers at the lone central Urdu university.
Justice B. Chandra Kumar issued the stay order for a period of four weeks on all the appointments made for professors in the university. Justice Kumar gave the order on the writ petition No. 6156 of 2012 filed by Mrs. Rayeesunnisa Begum.
Mrs. Rayeesunnisa Begum was an applicant to the post of the assistant professor in the university. She says she was qualified for the post but preference was given to non-Urdu speaking applicants. She also contended that Urdu University is not furnishing the details of appointments.
Mrs. Rayeesunnisa Begum in her petition in the high court contended that non-Urdu speakers are getting selected for the staff post in the Urdu university even after the university administration had restored knowledge of Urdu compulsory for the recruitment for the staff, after the protest by the university organization. She alleged that in the recent selection of 12 assistant professors, only two Urdu knowing candidates were selected and 10 other posts went to the applicants who have no knowledge of Urdu.
She also argued that Urdu University can relax other conditions but the knowledge of Urdu an essential condition for the recruitment can never be amended by the administration according to the sec 4 of the Maulana Azad National Urdu university act of 1996.
She argued in her petition that the objectives of the establishment of Urdu University is to promote Urdu language and to impart technical education through Urdu medium, but the university administration by appointing non-Urdu speakers to the staff posts had violated the rules and objectives, thus all the appointments made so far by the university administration of the non-Urdu speakers should be made void.
The controversies emerging on the daily basis in the university are seriously denting its image.
