Court issues summons to telecom firms over number portability

New Delhi : A Delhi court Wednesday issued summons to three big telecom firms and their seven top officials for allegedly violating the telecom regulation on number portability.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav issued summons to telecom firms Bharti Airtel, Loop mobiles and Idea Cellular on a complaint filed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) seeking prosecution of the accused for rejecting number portability requests of subscribers by violating TRAI regulation.

“There is enough material to proceed against the accused persons for violation of regulation,” said magistrate Yadav.

The court issued summons to all accused to appear in the court on May 25.

The court has also issued summons to chief executive officer (CEO), Bharti Airtel, Sanjay Kapoor, Director, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Jyoti Pawar and vice president regulatory affairs and mobile services Ashwani Rana.

The summon were also issued to Loop Mobiles Managing Director (MD), Sandip Basu and Chief Regulatory officer Harish Kapoor.

Two top corporate executives of Idea cellular, MD Himanshu Kapania and chief corporate affairs officer Rajat Mukarji were issued summons for violating telecom norms.

TRAI has moved separate application against each firm and said they had violated TRAI Telecommunications Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009.
