Chennai : Around 700 workers of Ford India Pvt Ltd who had boycotted work for the past two days would resume duties Friday after a truce was arrived at a conciliation meeting held between the Ford India Employees Union (FIEU) and the management here Thursday, said a union official.
“As per the decision at the conciliation meeting, all the workers would resume their normal duties Thursday night shift onwards. However, normalcy will be attained Friday morning. The management has agreed not to take any punitive action against the absent workers. The company would apply the principle of “No work, no pay” on the days they abstained from work,” K.Selvaraj, treasurer of FIEU told IANS.
The workers were protesting against the dismissal of nine employees and demanded their reinstatement. Around 700 workers boycotted their work Wednesday and Thursday, pressing their demands.
According to Selvaraj, another round of talks is slated Friday evening to discuss the issue of reinstatement of nine employees who were dismissed.
This is the first time in Ford India’s history that a major portion of the company’s workforce has boycotted work against the management’s decision.
