Lucknow: Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad has given a call for Shia Mahasammelan (grand conference) on Sunday. The sammelan is seen as a show of strength by him as he is facing the heat of probe by Shia Waqf Board. The sammelan will be held at Asafi Imambara.
Outlining the agenda of the sammelan, Jawwad stated that notwithstanding the active participation in public issue, the community has been neglected for long.
“It’s ironical that the Shia community comprising a considerable population among Muslims has been neglected from various benefits. We want a 20 per cent share from whatever package Muslims get,” Maulana Kalbe Jawad, Shia cleric and convener of the convention said.
To recall, another Shia cleric and vice-president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Kalbe Sadiq had recently shot off a letter to Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav with similar demand and expressed displeasure over the ‘neglect’ of the
community, especially the Shia Muslims.
The convention after passing a resolution will send a memorandum to the state and union governments with the list of demands. Apart from nearly 200 clerics, many political faces are also expected to attend the event to be held from 2 pm tomorrow.
