“Yes, it is true. We can confirm that,” an Indian external affairs ministry official told IANS here when asked if the Italian ambassador to India has been called by his government to visit Rome for a few days to hold consultations in the fishermen killing episode.

Earlier in the day, a special investigation team (SIT) of the Kerala Police filed a chargesheet against two Italian marines – latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone – of shooting dead two Indian fishermen from aboard the cargo ship Enrica Lexie on Feb 15 off the Kerala coast.

They had been arrested on Feb 20 for allegedly shooting dead two Indian fishermen, Ajesh Binki (25) and Gelastine (45) after mistaking them for pirates. The incident occurred off Alappuzha.
