Chandigarh : The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab will support the National Democratic Alliance’s call for a nationwide strike May 31 against the hike in petrol prices.
Akali Dal patron and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a statement Thursday said the party will support the ‘Bharat bandh’ to mount pressure on the United Progressive Alliance government to roll back the hike.
He said the hike was unacceptable to his party.
Badal said the people would not tolerate such decisions taken by the central government unilaterally at the behest of oil companies.
