The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) while vehemently condemning the hike of Rs.7.50 in the price of petrol, which is the steepest ever in last 10 years, has demanded its immediate rollback. Mr. E. Aboobacker, the national president of SDPI, in a statement termed the petrol price increase unreasonable and unjustified on every count as the common man is already reeling under inflation and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities. The unprecedented hike depicts how insensitive the Congress-led UPA government has become to the sufferings of the common people, he said.

Reacting on the issue, Welfare Party of Indi (WPI) has demanded resignation of the prime minister.

In a statement, Dr. SQR Ilyas, General Secretary, WPI said: The Welfare Party of India asked the Manmohan Singh at the centre to step down in the light of the heavy hike of petrol price that will make life of common people worse.

“The central government has forfeited all its moral rights to continue in power. The “cruel” third anniversary gift of UPA II has proven that the Congress government has succumbed to the pressure of corporates and oil giant companies, while selling out the common men,” he said.
