Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala’s ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Monday said it will approach the election commission to demand cancellation of the Communist Party of India-Marxist’s (CPI-M) registration following revelations of its “politics of murder”.
“We will now approach the election commission to cancel the registration of the CPI-M, given the numerous episodes of murder that their party has undertaken to finish off political opponents,” UDF convenor P.P. Thankachan told reporters here.
Thankachan’s comments came after Kerala Police Monday registered a case against CPI-M’s Idukki district secretary M.M. Moni, following his revelation Friday that his party had physically eliminated enemies in the district in the 1980s. Moni made the remarks while addressing a public meeting in Thodupuzha.
“Now Moni has to come clean on which all other leaders of his party are aware of these cases and who all were involved in this dastardly act,” added Thankachan.
The CPI-M is in the dock for two murders of political rivals that took place recently — former party leader T.P. Chandrasekharan in Kozhikode and Muslim League activist Abdul Shukoor in Kannur — and a number of their lower and middle level leaders are in custody for these two cases.
Thankachan also lashed out at the CPI-M for terrorising the media who are doing their job in reporting the daily developments in the two murder cases.
“It’s very surprising that the CPI-M is behaving like this. I am told that they are going to approach the court to see that no news is given on these cases,” he said.
