Odisha announces winter aid for elderly

Bhubaneswar : Odisha Monday announced financial assistance for its elderly, widows and disabled people to enable them to buy winter clothes as the mercury started dropping in some parts of the state.

The beneficiaries would receive Rs.200 each Dec 15 along with their monthly pension, according to an official statement issued by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s office.

The aid would cost the state exchequer Rs.34 crore and would benefit about 27 lakh elderly people, six lakh widows and four lakh physically challenged people, it said.

The district headquarters town of Phulbani, 200 km from here, recorded the state’s lowest temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius Monday.
