New Delhi : Congress ally DMK Monday submitted a notice seeking a debate in the Lok Sabha on the CAG report on 2G spectrum allocation.
The notice was submitted to Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar seeking a discussion under Rule 193, the general rule for debates in Lok Sabha with no provision for voting.
“DMK has given notice under (Rule) 193 to discuss the revelations made by R.P. Singh. We want a thorough discussion,” DMK leader T.R. Baalu told reporters.
Former CAG official R.P. Singh, in recent media interviews, hinted that the final CAG report on 2G spectrum allocation, putting the presumptive loss to the state exchequer at Rs.1.76 lakh crore, was prepared after CAG officials met BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, who then headed the Public Accounts Committee of parliament.
The notice that has been submitted by Baalu says the loss figures in the CAG report were inflated.
Backing its ally, Congress leader and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath said the revelations have raised concern.
“The DMK has moved it (the notice) and the speaker will consider it. It is a serious matter which concerns a lot of people,” Kamal Nath said.
He, however, clarified: “It is not a discussion on CAG, it is on what R.P. Singh has said. Not only members of DMK but other parties also want to know what it is about”.
