Shillong : A day after a shootout with rebels of the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), security forces Sunday recovered a cache of explosives, including RDX in the western part of Meghalaya, police said.
A corporal of the GNLA Lulu T. Sangma was killed in the shootout, while another rebel Habin Ch Marak was nabbed by the Meghalaya’s Special Weapons and Tactics commandos at Kherupara area late Saturday night, Mukesh Kumar Singh, the district police chief of West Garo Hills told IANS.
“Today (Sunday), a special team was sent to the encounter site and recovered 200 grams of RDX, 48 detonators, 98 rounds of live ammunition, an AK rifle, a pistol and three empty AK magazines,” he said.
The GNLA, one of the five Garo tribal rebel groups, is fighting for a separate Garoland in the five impoverished districts of the Garo Hills to be carved out from Meghalaya.
