UP CM announces Rs 1 crore assistance to Muslim educational society

Lucknow: In a significant gesture Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced one crore rupees grant to a social organisation, Anjuman Islah-ul-Muslimin on Sunday.

Anjuman Islah-ul-Muslimin, whose General Secretary is Additional Advocate General Zafaryab Jilani, works for the uplimftment of the minority community.

The organisation had received no monetary assistance from government so far.

Yadav made the announcement while speaking as chief guest during the Founder’s Day function of the organization held here at the Mumtaz PG College, run by the Anjuman.

“I am told that this college needs a hostel building and some new courses need to be started. The state government will provide an assistance of Rs 1 crore for the organization that runs the college,” the CM announced.

Anjuman runs many educational institutions, including this college, and another hundred year old orphanage.

Earlier, the CM made the announcement of Rs 50 Lakh grant, only to be doubled after a demand from those present on the stage and from among the audience. “Now that I have been asked to double the grant, I make it one crore,” Yadav said rectifying his earlier statement.

Making most of this occasion, the CM spelled out his government’s plan to improve education in the state, with special focus on the Muslim community.

Taking note of the audience, Yadav halted his speech in between, when azaan (call for prayer) from a nearby mosque began in reverence.

“We know that Muslims are lagging behind economically and educationally. The Samajwadi Party government is serious about improving the condition of Muslims in the state,” the CM said, adding that it was part of his party’s manifesto.

On the occasion, he reiterated his poll promise of giving laptops and computers to high school and intermediate pass outs, and reminded the audience that the SP Government has fulfilled most of its promises mentioned in the party manifesto. But, added that the change would be visible in due course, by the time his term ends.



Maulana Saeedur Rehman Nadvi had presided over the function. Local MLA Prof Abhishek Mishra, who is Protocol Minister, was also present on the occasion and reiterated that all poll promises would be fulfilled.

Earlier Zafaryab Jilani, additional advocate general and secretary of the organization presented the annual report about the functioning of Anjuman Islah-ul-Muslimin,and had put forth the demand for government assistance.

The chief minister also felicitated the meritorious students on the occasion.
