Hyderabad: Syed Afaque Iqbal from Bariyatu near Ranchi, Jharkhand has now also been booked by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for reviving banned Student Islamic Movement of India in the city.
Iqbal is being brought to the city on PT warrant on case pertaining of false identity and cheating, according to the Hyderabad and Gujarat police. Police alleges that Iqbal is actually Danish Riyaz, although, TCN revealed that his name is indeed Syed Afaque Iqbal, as he obtained Tata Indicom SIM card on false identity.
Two days after taking the custody of Iqbal, Hyderabad police has claimed to have gathered sufficient leads to charge the youth of revving banned SIMI in the city.
Iqbal, a computer software engineer by profession, was arrested from Hyderabad in April 2011, but was shown arrested from Vadodra Railway Station. He was shifted to the Sabramati Jail, after he was made an accused in Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts case.
SIT Hyderabad has pleaded for another PT warrant to the 12th additional metropolitan magistrate for arresting Iqbal on charges of stimulating Islamic extremism in Hyderabad.
SIT has stated before the court that Iqbal had stayed in Hyderabad for a period of 2008-2011 and during that period, he along with one of his accomplice Dr. Abu Faisal made connections with Moulana Naseeruddin, president of Wahdat-e-Islami, Moulana Abdul Aleem Islahi of Jaimatul Banaatal Islaha and his son Moutasimbillah in order to revive SIMI operations in the Hyderabad.
SIT has also claimed that Afaque Iqbal and Dr. Abu Faisal co-authored two books ‘Common destruction’ and ‘44 ways to participate in Jihad’ for advancing their goals.
SIT has also presented before the court that Iqbal is not being booked in a fresh case, but in the case pertaining to crime no. 287/2011, which was registered by central crime station (CCS) soon after he was arrested by the Gujarat police.
If court accepts PT warrant, it may lead to several more arrests.
From the time of his arrest, the case of Afaque Iqbal has been shrouded in mysteries and confusions.
He was shown arrested from Vadodra Railway Station, while he was picked up from his rented room in Hyderabad. There are cases booked against him in Hyderabad since June, 2011, soon after his arrest, but was not disclosed till now.
Further, Gujarat police, in their charge-sheet in Ahmedabad bomb blast, presented Iqbal as Indian Mujahedeen commander, but Hyderabad police is calling him an active member of banned SIMI.
And more, both state police is trying to pass him off as Danish Riyaz, claiming that Afaque Iqbal is his phony name, but as revealed by TCN, his Bihar educational board certificates, Ranchi university memo, and even his passport prove that his real name is indeed Syed Afaque Iqbal.
