AMU celebrating Sir Syed Day on October 17

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is celebrating 195th birth anniversary Muslim reformer and founder of the university, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as the Founder’s Day on October 17, 2012.

The university campus has been decorated with flowers and colorful lightings.

An exhibition of books and photographs related to the founder will be inaugurated by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. General (Retired) Zameer Uddin Shah on the day.

Another book exhibition organized by the National Book Trust of India in collaboration with the AMU will also open up tomorrow at the law of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology. Both the exhibitions will remain open for visitors from October 17-21, 2012.

Another exhibition of books and photographs on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Papa Mian Sheikh Abdullah, the doyen of female education in India, will be inaugurated by Her Excellency Milena Santana Ramirez, Ambassador of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to India at the Women’s College Library

Former Union Minister and Member Rajya Sabha, Mohsina Kidwai will be the Chief Guest of the Commemorative Function to be held at 10 am at the Athletics Ground of the University.



The winners of All India Essay Writing Competition will be felicitated and awarded with the prizes during the commemorative meeting at the Athletics Ground.

Various chapters of AMU Old Boys’ Association have also been organising health camps, essay writing competitions and several other cultural programmes in different parts of the country and abroad.

Special dinners will be served at various residential Halls of the University where several distinguished personalities have been invited as chief guests.

A new website, dedicated to the founder, will also be launched by the Vice Chancellor.
