RAMCO U-13 Chess: Visakh draws with Aravindh

Chennai : Fourth seeded N.R. Visakh of Chennai held top seed FIDE Master V.R. Aravindh Chithambaram to a draw in the sixth round of the RAMCO 26th National Under-13 Open and Girls chess championship here Tuesday to join leaders Aravindh Chithambaram (TN) and Ritviz Parab (Goa) with 5.5 points.

Ten players, including seeds Abhimanyu Puranik (Mah) and Pranav Vijay (TN), remained half a point behind the leaders.

The top board Sicilian game saw both the players fighting for the initiative. Aravindh slowly improvised his position and gained a protected passer in a tactical shot.

Visakh was also up to the task and held fort with his advanced knight giving sufficient threats and it fetched him a draw after 41 moves.

In the girls section, top seeded National Under-11 champion R. Vaishali of Tamil Nadu maintained her cent percent record defeating Shiny Das of Tripura.

The win put Vashali on top of the table with 6.0 points from as many rounds. In second place with 5.0 were Woman Candidate Masters Savant Riya of Goa and Tejaswini Sagar of Maharastra.
