Sir Syed Day celebrated in Lucknow

Lucknow: Paying rich tribute to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav stressed on taking the path showed by the social reformer and educationist for over development of the society.

Yadav was speaking as chief guest during the Sir Syed Day function marking the 195th birth anniversary of the founder of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) here at the Indira Gandhi Prathishthan on Wednesday.

The function, which saw participation of over a thousand ex-students of the central university, was organised by AMU Old Boys’ Association – a body of several former AMU students holding positions of prominence in the state government.

Surprisingly a prominent old boy, Azam Khan was missing in the function while chief secretary Jawed Usmani was held up in the meeting. Organizers said that they had sent invitation to all Aligarians – the university’s old boys.

The CM in his speech also promised to provide all the assistance to the association in its social endeavors. Nadeem Tarin, an entrepreneur based in Saudi Arabia was the guest of honour of the function.

The initiative, according to the organizers, aims at paying rich tributes to the great educationist and social reformer, on his anniversary. The group that comprises of bureaucrats, businessmen and professionals has chosen the occasion to re-affirm the commitment to the world vision as propagated by the founder while keeping in mind the situation that the entire world and especially, the Muslim community is passing through.

“The true spirit of Sir Syed is that Muslims should embark upon a path of introspection. We are also planning to provide assistance to the underprivileged as part of the calibrations” Rizwan Ahmad, IPS and president of the association said during his speech.

The event ended with the recitation of AMU Tarana written by Majaz Lucknowi followed by the customary Sir Syed Day dinner, which is organised all across the globe by old boys besides on the campus. This dinner is unique in the sense that the expenses are bore by all the members of the association equally.
