Kolkata : At least 2,000 tourists from around the world are set to arrive in the city to enjoy Durga Puja festivities, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Friday.
“This puja, about 2,000 tourists from around the world will arrive in Kolkata. This is the time to showcase our artistic talents,” Banerjee said, after inaugurating a puja pandal in south Kolkata.
Around 2,400 community puja organisers in the city have already erected massive and beautifully decorated marquees and huge crowds started pandal-hopping Friday on the occasion of Panchami.
Banerjee was in high spirits too, as she inaugurated a large number of pandals in the last 48 hours. Puja, to her, was about lip-smacking food, she said.
“Puja is the time for food, pandal-hopping and fun. We just try any tasty food during this time — from fuchka (panipuri) to aloor chop (potato fritters),” she said.
This year, the five-day festival starts Oct 20 with Shashti.
