Agra : More than 100 foreign students and scores of local activists Wednesday evening celebrated United Nations Day here with dances, songs and speeches.
The Central Hindi Institute (CHI), in cooperation with the Mitr Society, organised the UN Day function, where speakers lauded the role of the global body in accelerating the development process in many countries of the Third World and in supporting health, educational and cultural activities globally.
CHI registrar Chandra Kant Tripathi said that “brand India had become stronger and Hindi had spread its wings globally”.
Students from various countries presented songs and dances. The star performer was 65-year old Kartar Singh Yadav, a performer on “X Factor” on Sony TV last year, who impressed everyone with his energetic presentations of Bollywood songs.
Agra Mayor Indrajeet Arya said there was a need for more comprehensive involvement of the younger elements as the future belonged to them. “Together, we can make a difference and secure the world from lingering problems,” the mayor said.
