Two held for supplying arms for Rs.5.25 crore heist

New Delhi : Two illicit arms suppliers, who sold weapons to robbers for the Rs.5.25 crore heist here last month, were arrested and three pistols and 10 cartridges recovered from them, police said Monday.

“One of the accused, Khalid, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested Oct 17 near the Commonwealth Games Village in east Delhi. A loaded English pistol and a spare magazine were recovered from him,” said a police officer.

After his questioning, police arrested Piruddin near the Inter-State Bus Terminus in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar. Two pistols and magazines were seized from him.

The accused claimed that they brought illegal arms from Bihar’s Munger district and supplied these to gangsters in the national capital region, said the officer.

The two men sold weapons for around Rs.18,000 each and made a profit of Rs.2,000 on every weapon, police said.

The two arms suppliers said that they provided a pistol to Hari Kishan, a key member of the gang which committed the robbery, official said.

The heist took place near a petrol pump in south Delhi’s Defence Colony Sep 28. The accused hijacked a radio taxi carrying Rs.5.25 crore in cash belonging to the ICICI Bank.

At least, 12 accused, including Hari Kishan, have been arrested for the sensational daytime robbery.
