Thiruvananthapuram : Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan Thursday drew flak from Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for criticising projects which had been cleared by the former when he was ruling Kerala.
Chandy has been facing criticisms from Achuthanandan on projects that would be showcased at the upcoming three-day Emerging Kerala investors meet at Kochi, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sep 12.
“I have with me all documents to prove that the concerns that Achuthanandan raised in his letter to me on three projects were all cleared by him,” the chief minister said, after a meeting of the United Democratic Front here.
“It’s strange that he (Achuthanandan) has now taken such a stand and blames us as if we are going to sell the state itself,” said Chandy.
Achuthanandan has asked for the Emerging Kerala meet to be cancelled as it did not have transparency and was detrimental to the larger interest of the state.
“While the opposition has every right to protest and express differences of opinion on policies, they should have expressed it at an all party meeting which we called to discuss the Emerging Kerala investors’ meet. It was most unfortunate that they boycotted the meeting and are now creating a needless controversy,” said Chandy.
Chandy also pointed out that the UDF is united and there exists no difference of opinion on any issues.
“The media also should have shown restraint and the best they could have done was to seek our version to the various projects that was put up on the website. We decided to put everything that came up as proposals on the website,” he said.
The chief minister said that the government “will now put only (those) projects (on websites) that are cleared”.
