Attempt to intimidate Kazmi family condemned

By TCN News,

New Delhi: The Syed Kazmi Solidarity Committee has condemned the attempt of Delhi Police to ‘intimidate’ the family of arrested senior journalist Syed Mohammad Ahmed Kazmi. The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday (11th Sep) tried to pick Kazmi’s teenager nephew from Shaheen Bagh area but the alarmed residents foiled the bid. Kazmi has moved Supreme Court against his arrest in the Israeli embassy car blast case, and Kazmi family sees the incident as an attempt to intimidate them.

“The Syed Kazmi Solidarity Committee condemns in the strongest terms the attempt by the Special Cell to browbeat and demoralize the Kazmi family’s fight for justice. On the evening of 11th September, Mr. Kazmi’s nephew, a 16-year-old student and resident of Shaheen Bagh, Delhi, was accosted by personnel of the Special Cell and attempted to be taken away. He managed to raise an alarm and his abduction was foiled by the local residents. This follows several threatening phone calls made to the lawyer and family by the Special Cell, asking them to withdraw their petition in the Supreme Court. This incident was clearly planned to further intimidate the family and supporters of Mr. Kazmi,” said the group in a statement today.

“The Supreme Court’s response to the petition filed on behalf of Mr. Kazmi, as well as the recent media exposes of the hollowness of the chargesheet filed by the Special cell against Mr. Kazmi has resulted in these desperate measures,” it added.

The group has demanded the Central Government to “rein in the Cell.” The group has also demanded the Home Minister to take “strictest action against those officers of the Special Cell who have been indulging in such intimidation.”
