Jaipur: The bloody communal violence of Gopalgarh village in Bharatpur district in Rajasthan has today completed one year, but the victims have not yet got justice – guilty officials are yet to be punished and innocent villagers are yet to be released from jails. The premier investigation agency CBI has taken over the case last year, but it is yet to file charge sheet.
Ten Meo Muslims were killed in the communal clashes and the subsequent police firing, and 30 others were wounded on 14th September 2011 when the two communities clashed over a piece of graveyard land in Gopalgarh area of Bharatpur district.
“Last year in Gopalgarh, police opened fire on innocent Muslims killing 10 and wounding 30 others. But even after the passage of one year of the incident, victims have not yet got justice,” said Er. Khurshid Hussain, state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind while addressing office bearers of the Jamaat on 13th September yesterday.
Talking to TCN over phone Er, Khurshid said: “Monetary compensation is not true justice. The victims and their families will get justice when the guilty officers and people brought to book and prosecuted.” He further said that while Muslims were killed in the firing, yet, the police arrested Muslims – there are five Muslims including a father and his three sons in the jail in this connection. He informed that each family of the deceased has been given about 4-5 lakh by the government.
Er. Khurshid had led a delegation to the chief minister Ashok Gehlot in this past Ramazan and demanded justice to the victims by speedy enquiry and prosecution of the guilty officers.
He said that due to charge sheet not being filed, guilty officers have resumed officer after having been suspended. CBI has not yet submitted charge sheet and so the guilty officers are free. Recently Er. Khurshid had met CBI officials and they had admitted that they did not take any action on the FIRs filed by Muslims. Er. Khurshid informed TCN that the CBI has changed its Investigation Officer and they have resumed hearing in Jaipur.
He further alleged that the Inspector General of Police had recently transferred 17 policemen of the local police station but local leaders of the ruling Congress including the MP put pressure on the administration and their transfer was cancelled.
Er. Khurshid demanded pace in the Gopalgarh riot probe and immediate filing of charge sheet against the guilty officers and other people. He also demanded release of innocent people who have been arrested for the riot.
