Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh legislative Assembly on Wednesday moved a resolution in the house, urging central Govt. to ban the anti-Islamic movie ‘Innocence of Muslims’, its trailer and other hateful contents from the internet and social networking websites.

In the chaotic day in the assembly over Telangana and price rise issues the resolution was passed just before the adjournment of the house. Speaker of A.P. Assembly Nandela Manohar in his brief address before passing the resolution said, “House urged the Government of India to initiate immediate action which would preserve the communal harmony and maintenance of peace. The House also urged the center to enact appropriate legislation to prevent the social media from indulging in acts which are likely to influence adversely the sentiments of all religious.”

The resolution was accepted unanimously by every major political party except BJP which opposed the resolution as unwarranted.

The resolution was passed at the request of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, on 16th September in Business Advisory Committee of legislative Assembly meeting. Party’s floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi had demanded a resolution in the house to condemn anti-Islamic movie, in view of marinating communal harmony. Few days earlier party president Asaduddin Owaisi along with party’s MLAs met chief minister demanding a resolution in the Assembly for urging central govt. to ban anti-Islamic movie and other hateful contents from the internet.

Speaking to media after the assembly session, BJP state president and MLA G. Kishan Reddy said he has nothing against Muslims, and he didn’t want to hurt any community’s religious sentiments. The reason for BJP’s opposition to the resolution he said is because, “That movie has nothing to do with Andhra Pradesh, it is an international matter. Congress govt. is not passing a resolution on Telangana statehood issue, and a resolution urging central govt. to control price rise. That resolution has nothing to do with the business of the house.”
