PM greets Mozambique’s ruling party on its 50th anniversary

New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday greeted Mozambique’s Frelimo party on its 50th anniversary, with Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma representing the prime minister at events planned to mark the occasion.

Sharma handed over the message from Manmohan Singh to Mozambique’s President Armando Emilio Guebuza at Maputo during a meeting, according to a government release here.

He also handed over to Guebuza a letter from Congress president Sonia Gandhi greeting the Frelimo party on the occasion, the release said.

“Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles Anand Sharma met Armando Emilio Guebuza, President of the Republic of Mozambique, at Maputo today (Monday). Sharma handed over the messages of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on the 50th anniversary of Frelimo party of Mozambique to President Armando Emilio Guebuza,” the release said.

Sharma is the prime minister’s special envoy at the 50th anniversary celebration of Frelimo party.

In his message, Manmohan Singh conveyed the wishes of the people and the government of India on the occasion.

“India’s relations with Mozambique are founded on our common struggle and collaboration against colonialism and our partnership for socio-economic development of Mozambique,” he said in his message to President Guebuza.

Gandhi in her message said: “History bears testimony to the remarkable bond between our people in a righteous struggle for freedom and a life of dignity.”
